thanks for the feedback..I used penofin penetrating oil finish, let it dry, sanded it down again, glossed it, then sanded with a 220 grit. as far as the 45° slabs go, I'd have to say that luck was on my side lol..i only cut the tops and left everything else as they were..as soon as I got the top set in, I put quite some time into sanding this thing too my liking..hope this kind of helps
